Motorola Edge Review & User Opinions (2026)
Latest flagship from Motorola

Updated for 2026: This article provides a refreshed look at the original Motorola Edge, first released in 2020, evaluating its features and user opinions in the context of 2026 technology. While many successors have since emerged, understanding the foundation of the Edge series remains valuable.
After months of leaks and talks, Motorola officially announced their flagships, the Motorola Edge and Edge Plus, back in April 2020. At the time, Motorola was making efforts to establish itself against strong competition from various brands. The original Motorola Edge was their counter-move, featuring 5G connectivity, a distinctive design, and several prominent features. It was positioned as one of the more affordable 5G phones available, incorporating Qualcomm’s first integrated 5G chipset, and launched with an estimated price of around $700. (As of 2026, the original Motorola Edge is a legacy device. For those seeking modern features and performance, the latest Motorola Edge (2026) successor models are highly recommended.)
So, let’s revisit the original Motorola Edge Review and examine what this device offered upon its release, and how its specifications and user experience hold up in 2026.

Design & Built
Initiating with the availability of the colors, the new Motorola Edge comes in two eye-catching colors: Midnight Magenta & Solar Black. The hands on feel of the phone is quite solid while its weight distribution will leave you impressed because of not being felt so heavy in your palm despite weighing about 188 g. It comes with 6.7 inches curved ‘waterfall’ display which is having the refresh rate of 90 Hz. Motorola is calling it the endless edge display under which there is an in-display fingerprint sensor.
If you take a close look you will see that Motorola has done a great job with their 90degree curved display while promising you to provide a premium feel. The front part is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the frame is made of aluminum.
If you go on the back part it gives a bluish or blackish effect at the reflection of light although it is actually made of plastic. At the center there is the branding of Motorola and on the top left lies the vertical quad-camera setup along with an LED flash.
Now if we talk about the physical placement of the phone, there is nothing on the left side. So obviously on the right side we get the volume rockers and the power button which feels quite tactile. But the placement is quite upper considering your fingers to reach them out in single handed usage. On the very top of the phone there is a secondary noise cancellation mic and a hybrid dual sim slot. The top firing speaker has been placed at the top-front part of the phone, on the left of which you will find a 25MP single punch-hole camera.
And at the bottom of the phone there are primary microphone, Type-C port, bottom firing stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Yes! A 3.5 mm headphone jack. Motorola has not compromised placing this sweet piece of cherry on their cake while its competitors usually get rid of it in this premium segment. And it goes beyond mentioning that the stereo speakers are going to create an amazing environment of music for you.
Display
The new Motorola Edge is going to give you a pure cinematic experience through its 6.7 inches full HD plus OLED display which has a 95% of screen to body ratio. As I have mentioned earlier, the front is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection; that means the display will endure the minor scratches from your day to day usages.
The side panels of the phone continue to reach out the thin aluminum frame as it is curved at a 90degree angle. But you can find ignorable bezels at the head and chin area of the phone. The phone comes with an aspect ratio of 19:5:9 having the density of 385ppi and the resolution of 1080×2340 pixels.
The display is HDR10 supported and has a refresh rate of 90 Hz although you can always switch to the normal rate of refresh at 60 Hz for a better backup from your battery. The phone supports the Widevine L1 but you can only stream SD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime which might get improved through an update later on.
The color reproduction on the Edge is really eye catching and you should not face any hindrance using it out in the sunlight as it can produce a maximum brightness of 416 nits and also it is going to let your eyes rest at darkness by reducing the brightness to about 2.3 nits.
Now, on top-left corner of the phone there is a small cutout with a view to making the place for a single punch-hole 25 MP front camera which can take brilliant selfies. And of course, while going down on the screen, lies the optical fingerprint scanner beneath the screen which you will find pretty fast to unlock the phone.
Camera
Motorola is coming up with the trendy high rated vertical quad sensors using pixel bending technology which will provide you a camera section such as below:
- Primary Lens: 64 MP, f/ 1.8 (merges four physical pixels into one virtual pixel for ending up getting a detailed and ultimate delivery of 16 MP image)
- Secondary Lens: 8 MP, f /2.4 (which is an OmniVision telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom)
- Ultrawide Lens: 16 MP, f /2.2 (helps taking macro shots too)
- Portrait Lens: (contains the 3D time-of-flight sensor for taking portraits and helping the autofocus if necessary)
On the front, comes a 25 MP Quad pixel selfie camera from Samsung Sensors which is able to produce 6.2 MP images by default and you can change it up to get the shots at 25 MP. The sensor is assessed by the aperture of f/2.0 and also has a fixed focusing system. The face unlocking system of the phone faces some complications performing in the absence of light but works quite well otherwise through the front facing camera.
To be honest the cameras actually work just fine at daylight by producing mostly sharp and detailed photos with decent dynamic range. But it would be mostly appreciated if the phone came up with a little bit of more punchy and saturated colors.
Now, about the video recording on this phone you ask? The edge is capable of recording 4K videos at up to 30 frames per second and can do high-res slow-motion as well. You cannot shoot 4K videos at 60fps but 1080p footages can be shot at both 30fps and 60fps.
Well the phone gets on pretty well with the 4K footage which is assessed by continuous phase-detect auto focus and great stereo sound recording system. There is OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) on the rear sensors in order to counteract the camera shakes.
Performance
Software
If we are to talk about the performance, first we have to get into its software section. Here, Motorola introduced its very own Android Skin named UX in which everything seems very basic and simple to get on with. Motorola is well aware of the fact that people are not really fond of bloatware where the apps are cloning the functionality already available in Google’s package.
So, the company has come up with a minimal and customizable android skin with some special and very useful features such as pulling out in-game triggers from the side of the phone which would be a very convincing thing for the gamers. Eventually, you are going to get a nice stock android experience from this phone.
The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G octa-core (7 nm) processor, which was integrated with a 5G modem (Qualcomm X52) and an Adreno 620 GPU. While this chipset was considered powerful for its segment at the time of release, it’s important to note in 2026 that it represents an older generation of mobile processors. For its original release, Motorola made a strategic choice with this chipset to bring 5G connectivity to a more accessible price point.
As for the storage section of the phone, there are two variants for RAM which comes in 4GB or 6GB of LPDDRX RAM and the ROM for both of the variant is of 128GB (UFS 2.1). You will get approximately 110 GB free space from 128 GB out of the box.
Despite the consideration in chipset section, the performance of the phone is quite excellent. It scores around 279075 on the AnTuTu Benchmark which indicates of its placement to be in the mid segment.

Gaming
Talking about the gaming performance, you can play Call of Duty, Asphalt 9, PUBG and other high graphics game in HD graphics easily on this phone but playing in HDR would not be giving you a smooth experience. At the same time, we must not forget about the 90Hz refresh rate of the phone which being combined with the HD graphics of any game might be the cup of tea you were looking for. But we must say that the heating issue of this phone while gaming is not that noticeable as the back panel is made of plastic.
Another very important thing to mention here is the Moto Gametime that is a set of tools to enhance the mobile gaming experience with some really useful features. The great news for the action game loving community is that they can add virtual triggers on the curved edge of the phone. So, the phone will give you a completely hassle-free gaming experience through filtering out the notifications of calls and messages as well as turning the audio enhancement option on.
Battery
The Motorola Edge did a great job with the battery. There is a large non-removable Lithium-Polymer battery of 4500mAh implemented in this phone. Although the phone is fast-charging supported and a turbo charger of 18W has been provided with the phone it takes more than 2 hours to be charged fully. But it can charge up the beast up to 35% in just 30 minutes. So, we can say that it is neither a quick nor a sluggish charger. Rather it comes somewhere in between them.
But we must talk about the battery backup of the phone. It will give an estimated time of 2 days battery backup if you are an average user. But if you are a hardcore one, it will still give you the battery backup of a full day with ease. What we must admit here is that the phone provides you a brilliant backup while streaming online videos. Also, if you want a better performance from the battery, you can switch to the 60Hz refresh rate any time.
Speakers & Audio Quality
The audio delivery of this device we can say is above average but not remarkable. It has got a hybrid stereo speaker performing in order to provide a convincing stereo effect. But combined with Motorola’s very own Moto Audio Enhancement, the audio quality gets an improvement while you enjoy songs, videos or games of any type.
Pros & Cons

Conclusion
So, there you have it – a comprehensive look back at the original Motorola Edge. Upon its release, this phone offered 5G connectivity, a substantial battery, and a cool curved design, initially priced around $700. In 2026, if you’re considering this device, its primary appeal would be its significantly lower price on the used or refurbished market (expect to find it for around $150–$250, as of 2026). However, for a truly contemporary smartphone experience, we strongly advise exploring the latest Motorola Edge models or other current 5G offerings from leading manufacturers. These newer devices will deliver vastly superior performance, advanced camera systems, and up-to-date software support. The original Motorola Edge Plus also offered wireless charging, a feature that has become much more common across various price points today.
Back in its day, both Apple and Google also made significant waves in the market with the original iPhone SE and Google Pixel 3a, respectively (both of which are now legacy devices). For a historical perspective, you can still refer to our Buying Guide iPhone SE vs Google Pixel 3a, but for current purchasing decisions, always consider their modern successors.
